How to Prepare a Bathroom Travel Bottle Leak-Check Tray
Use a shallow tray before a trip to check travel bottles for loose caps and leaks before they go into luggage.

Rinse empty bottles

Rinse the empty travel bottles and caps to remove old residue.
Residue can affect sealing and leave mixed smells.
Do not mix different cleaners or skin products in one bottle.
Dry them upside down

Set bottles and caps upside down on a towel until water drips out.
Too much water left inside can dilute the product.
Do not pack water-sensitive powders before the bottle is dry.
Fill only three-quarters

Leave space near the top instead of filling to the rim.
Liquids need room when squeezed or exposed to temperature changes.
Do not carry flammable, corrosive, or restricted liquids.
Wipe the bottle threads

Before closing, wipe the bottle opening and threads with tissue.
Residue around the threads can cause slipping or slow leaks.
Discard tissue that touched irritating products.
Tighten and stand upright

Close each cap properly and stand every bottle upright on the tray.
Upright placement lets you spot leaks in the normal position first.
Do not overtighten until a plastic cap cracks.
Tilt test on tissue

Line the tray with tissue and tilt it gently for a few seconds.
Tissue reveals small leaks quickly.
Tilt gently so bottles do not fall.
Retighten any leaking bottle

If you see a wet mark, dry the bottle and cap, then close it again and recheck.
Most small leaks come from wet threads or a misaligned cap.
Do not travel with a bottle that keeps leaking.
Pack upright in the pouch

Once dry, place the bottles upright in a clear toiletry pouch.
Keeping them upright reduces pressure leaks in transit.
Do not press important items directly against liquid bottles.
