How to Organize a Small Desk Stationery Drawer with Dividers
Sort pens, notes, clips, and small tools into low dividers so the drawer opens to the items you actually reach for.

Take everything out

Move every pen, paper, clip, and small tool from the drawer onto the desk.
An empty drawer makes duplicates, broken items, and rarely used pieces obvious.
Set blades, staples, and sharp items aside first.
Wipe the empty drawer

Use a dry or barely damp cloth to remove dust and eraser crumbs from the drawer.
A clean base keeps paper and sticky notes from looking dusty right away.
Do not soak a wooden drawer with water.
Sort into small groups

Group pens, notes, clips, erasers, and daily tools into separate piles.
Sorting first makes the divider layout much easier to choose.
Do not return dried-out pens or broken supplies.
Set in low dividers

Place low dividers or shallow trays in the drawer and check that they fit under the desktop.
Low dividers separate items without hiding what is inside.
Tall dividers can scrape the desk or stop the drawer from closing.
Use the long section for pens

Place everyday pens, pencils, and a ruler in the longest section with tips facing one way.
Long tools stay neater when they share one direction.
Cap ink pens tightly to prevent leaks.
Use small sections for clips

Put paper clips, binder clips, erasers, and tiny items into shallow small sections.
Small items need edges, or they roll into the back of the drawer.
Keep sharp pins separate from items you touch often.
Test the drawer once

Slide the drawer open and closed gently to see whether anything lifts or catches.
Testing now catches height problems before the drawer is full again.
If it catches, do not force it. Remove the tall item first.
Keep only daily quantities

Move backup supplies elsewhere and keep only what you use in the next week or two.
A lighter daily drawer is easier to maintain.
Do not mix batteries, medicine, or snacks into the stationery drawer.
